November 2017 Membership Meeting Minutes

Minutes are only posted after the Executive Board has voted to approve the minutes at the following Membership Meeting. The minutes for the November Membership meeting were approved at the January Membership Meeting. (December Membership Meeting was not held in lieu of our Annual Holiday Party)

7:06 meeting called to order

7:07 Pledge of Allegiance

7:08 Thanks and recognition of the veterans and family members attending.

7:08 Moved and seconded to adopt agenda. Passed.

7:09 Moved and seconded to approve October meeting minutes. Passed.

7:10 October’s treasurer’s report. Moved and seconded to approve treasurer’s report. Passed.

7:12 Remarks from the Chair. Update on lawsuits targeting local LDs brought by GOP aligned operative. 37th LD has received a complaint from the gentlemen. The State Party has provided legal assistance to LDs when targeted by these complaints. The issues raised against our district are generally weak. We have obtained counsel. The Chair is pleased to know that over the years in question we filed our PDC reports. Past treasurers are working with current treasurer to ensure counsel has all information necessary to launch our defense.

7:21 Chair provided observations of last election. Spotlight on important victories throughout the country.

7:26 Chair read “Let America Be America Again” by Langston Hughes as a response to “Make America Great Again.”

7:31 Recognition of birthdays and anniversaries.

8:06 King County Legislative Action Committee Female Rep: Cathy Wyden sole nomination. Appointed by unanimous acclaim. Cathy introduced herself to body.

8:09 King County Democratic Party Committee Rep Male – remains open as no one was nominated.

8:10 New business: Resolutions thanking Sen Cantwell, Rep. Smith, and Rep. Jayapal for their work to stop nuclear weapons expansion and modernization. Moved and seconded to adopt resolutions. Motion passes unanimously.

8:17 Resolution on single payer health care. Moved and seconded. Resolution passes.

8:23 New business: 37th District Holiday Party presentation by Vice Chair Derek Richards. December 11 in place of meeting. Starts at 7pm. El Quetzal, 3209 Beacon Ave. S. 98144.

8:25 PCO appointments. Acting PCO appointments:  Emily Carmichael 3708, Robert Redwine 1839. Moved and seconded. Recommended to King County Party by unanimous acclaim.

8:29 Joe McDermott of King County Council addressed the body.

8:37 John Stafford provided updated from KCLAC. Discussion of legislative priorities.

8:40 Good of the order: Neighborcare Health is part of the coalition for homelessness. They are petitioning the city for more money for services for the homeless and housing insecure. Need signatures. Please consider signing the sheets in the back.
