Minutes are only posted after the Executive Board has voted to approve the minutes at the following Membership Meeting. The minutes for the September Membership meeting were approved at the October Membership Meeting.



9-11-17 37th LD Meeting Minutes

7p Meeting called to order

To leave by 9pm. Primary business of this meeting is endorsement of candidates and ballot measures. School Board positions will be followed by Port of Seattle ending with Mayoral endorsement for City of Seattle.

Ballot measures will follow.

Regular meeting agenda to end.


Move to adopt agenda. Seconded. Unanimously adopted.


7:09 Chair read a statement commemorating September 11, 2001 from the NAACP.


7:15 Chair read rules of endorsement and reviewed voting process.


7:21 School Board Pos. 4 Open for Nominations

Eden Mack nominated and seconded.

Nominations closed. Moved and seconded to approve endorsement by unanimous acclimation.

Eden provided remarks for one minute.


7:24 School Board Pos. 5 Open for Nominations

Zachary DeWolf nominated and seconded.

Nominations closed. Moved and seconded to approve endorsement by unanimous acclimation.

Zachary provided remarks for one minute.


7:27 Port of Seattle Commissioner Pos. 4

Peter Steinbrueck moved and seconded.

Preeti Shridhar moved and seconded. 

Peter Steinbrueck addressed body.

Janice van Cleve spoke in favor of Steinbrueck’s nomination.

No speakers against.


Preeti Shridhar not in attendance. Stephen Reed spoke in her stead.

7:43 City of Seattle Mayor Endorsements Open for Nomination

Jenny Durkan nominated and seconded.

Cary Moon nominated and seconded.

7:50 Port of Seattle Pos. 4 results: No endorsement 1 for 0.8%. Preeti 58 for 47.2% Peter 64 for 52%

Goes to 2nd  ballot.

Balloting commenced.

7:59 Port of Seattle Pos. 4 results: Preeti 62 for 49.2%. Peter 64 for 50.8%

Ballot committee called results into question because there were more ballots than sign ins.

Sign ins were added late and a new count was ordered.

Motion to suspend rules to proceed to 4

th

ballot (allowing dual endorsement) was seconded. Voting commenced. Motion passed.

Motion and second for dual endorsement. Motion passed.


8:08 Balloting commenced for Seattle Mayor.


8:14 Ballot measures were opened for nominations.

King County Proposition 1:

Motion to endorse moved and seconded.

Motion to endorse No moved and seconded.

Motion for no endorsement moved and seconded.

8:28 Result of Mayor Round 1: No Endorsement 2 1.5%. Cary Moon 54 for 43.9%. Jenny 75 for 57.3%.

Round 2 balloting commenced for Seattle Mayor.


8:34 Chair reviewed advisory votes to be voted on later while ballots were counted.


8:40 Result of Mayor Round 2: No Endorsement 3 for 2.3% Cary 56 for 43.1% Durkan 71 for 54.6% 

Motion to suspend the rules bypassing round three to allow for dual endorsement. Motion failed.


Round 3 balloting commenced.

8:51 Chair entertained motion to pass a resolution in opposition to expansion of New Seasons Market in Seattle.

Motion carries. Resolution is adopted.

Motion to suspend the rules to take up the ballot measure advisory votes as one slate.

Motion to maintain the slate of advisory votes.

Motion passes unanimously to Endorse “Maintain” for the Advisory Ballot measures.

8:57 Round 4 results: No Endorsement 6 for 4.5%. Cary Moon 54 for 40.6%. Jenny Durkan 75 for 54.9%.

Moved and seconded for Dual Endorsement.

8:59 Moved and seconded to move endorsement of Prop 1. To next meeting. Passed.


Motion to adjourn. Passed unanimously.
